Every Thanksgiving, we have dinner at this certain restaurant. I'm not a fan of turkey, and hey, it's my holiday too! We have our traditions. That was true until Covid arrived and everything came to a full stop. The restaurant we go to sits directly on the beach in a place called Lauderdale By The Sea. And, is right next to a long pier.
It was then, Thanksgiving 2019 that I started toying with idea of what I did yesterday. It kept coming back to me over and over, to the point I brought the subject up to The Smart One. He, knowing he happily wouldn't be included said, "go for it".
So, I did it yesterday. I ubered to the pier, rented a fishing pole, bought a 'baggie' full of shrimp and went fishing. It was so much fun. I gabbed with guys who fish everyday there and told stories, etc.... Some of the people are very serious as they bring rolling carts with multiple poles and are prepared for a long working day.
It was not the best of days as it was the day after the cold front moved through and it was windy as hell. Thank jeebus I took a fleece hoodie and wore jeans. I was wind whipped after a couple of hours. Then I went and had lunch at the outdoor cafe on the pier and ubered home. I had so much fun. Ubering to go fishing! LMGAO Such is city life.
This stretch of condominiums is called Galt Ocean Mile. I'm looking south of the pier.
Waiting for a handout! In the background you can see a couple of guys with all the poles.
This was my elaborate setup. Notice the little baggie on the bait cutting shelf. LMGAO.
I had a ball! I did get two hits on the line, but caught nothing. But neither did anyone else while I was there. I think the ocean was just to turbulent with the wind and storm front. But who cares, I had a ball!
Im so glad you got out and enjoyed something. Sounds like a perfect day to me. I would have just enjoyed seeing the pelican alone.
ReplyDeleteSometimes, it's the simple things that brings the most pleasure. I always loved fishing as kid.
DeleteOMG so much fun!
ReplyDeleteBet it was totally exciting and a different experience! I love the sea.
XOXO
Who would have ever thought of taking an Uber to fish! LOL
DeleteSix,...I left a comment on your post yesterday and it didn't show up. I had a comment from Upton vanish on my sight as well. Have no clue what is going on.
DeleteOh, you know how Blogger is so effed up. I found comments in the spam folder all the time!
DeleteXOXO
Glad you got out, dear. How fun. A bit of adventure - just what was needed. I am just wrapping my head around the fact that I have to start to prepare to return to the workplace and that life may resume as before. It's daunting... thanks for taking pole in hand and braving the way! Kizzes.
ReplyDeleteOh, I get out, dear Upton. Funny you mention going back to the office. The Smart One's office may be going to part office and part home because conference stuff can be done from anywhere. *dreads*
Deletethe sea air is very healthy, rich in iodine.
ReplyDeleteIn Italy, it was once said that children who were born in cities or in villages near the sea were already rich from birth.
Maybe because they are property owners - rich. I also think it might be the part of the world you live in. Pollution and such.
Deleteno, because children do not have to go on holidays to the sea, because they live by the sea!
DeleteSounds like a great day! It is indeed funny that one would uber to go fishing, but then again, why not?
ReplyDeleteExactly. Ft Lauderdale even in 'off season' is a far cry more congested than The Outer Banks.
Delete(I'm so glad you posted)
Way to go, Jimmy. This post brought a big smile to my face and I am glad you went out and had yourself a great time. You might even inspire a few of us to get off of our butts and do something fun as well.
ReplyDeleteOh, Mr Shife! You make it sound like I'm a shut in. Far from true. But, I don't think people would be interested in NA mx5 manipulation and alteration.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear and I am going to have Google those last few words because I have no idea.
DeleteMaybe in your next life you'll be lucky enough to Gay.
DeleteGlad you had such a wonderful outing. I think we need to treat ourselves to such things... whims. Very underrated and unfulfilled... whims. Good for you! Kizzes.
